We believe in changing lives in practical and spiritual ways. Our ministries are an example of how we express that in our community.

Helping Hand Cafe

Our Helping Hand Cafe meal ministry has been suspended until further notice as a response to the Coronavirus pandemic. $5 hampers thanks to our new ‘Helping Hand Hampers’ team are being given out from 11am-1pm on Tuesdays for the time being.

Food, conversation and a warm welcome is what you will find every Tuesday at our Helping Hand Café. Everyone from the community is invited to Helping Hand Café, where we offer a free two-course meal, free grocery items to take away and a warm and welcoming atmosphere where everyone is welcome. One regular guest said he feels like Café is “his big family” – exactly the purpose of our Helping Hand Café.

Join us from 11am each Tuesday morning in the chapel to pray for Helping Hand Café, or come anytime from 11.30am for coffee and a chat before the meal is served at 12 noon.

Café is run by a team of dedicated volunteers, led by our Café Coordinator, Robert Adams, who has run Helping Hand Café since it began in 2005. In July 2019, we celebrated 14 years of Helping Hand Café and an incredible 40,000 meals served!

Connect Groups

Our Connect Groups are groups of people who gather together weekly to share life together, study the Bible, pray and care for one another, challenge one another in faith and seek God together for how God is calling them to bless our community.

Every Connect Group includes three core elements:

Belong //   Each Discipleship Group shares a meal or some food together, building community and sharing stories of faith.

Believe //   We believe in Jesus. We get to know Jesus more as we open the Bible and pray together.

Bless // Believing leads to blessing. Each Group will work together on their own {Bless Project} to bless and connect with the community.

Our Online Connect Groups (currently meeting on Zoom) are:

  • Sundays 11am (led by the Fenns)
  • Sundays 11am (led by the Hartmans)
  • Sundays 4pm (Young families, led by the Jungs)
  • Mondays 11am (led by Patti Gerkens)
  • Tuesdays 7:30pm (led by the Lanyons)
  • Wednesdays 7:30pm (led by Liz Hunter)

For more information on how to sign up, please contact our Church Office.

Our kids are an incredibly important part of the life of our church, and as a church we make every effort to ensure that kids and parents are championed and equipped for day to day discipleship.

If your children are aged from 18 months to 3 years they are welcome to join Little Seeds, our play-based toddler program. If your children are aged 4 to grade 6, they are welcome to join Seeds. Seeds and Little Seeds run each week during school term time. Seeds and Little Seeds begin around 20-30 minutes after the start of the service, usually after our time of worship and Communion, and run until the end of the service. Some weeks our Seeds break off into two groups – early primary (4 year old kinder to grade 2) and primary (grade 3 to grade 6) for more age-specific teaching and activities.

Our Seeds and Little Seeds volunteers are passionate about Jesus and love being a part of helping our kids discover what it means to follow Jesus. All our Seeds volunteers have Working With Children checks. We use the ‘Kidswise’ curriculum with our Seeds program: find out more here. All parents of Seeds and Little Seeds children must have completed a Child Registration Form before a child can participate in the program.

We have a kids’ corner at the back of the chapel which all our kids are welcome to use – there is always play-doh, activity sheets and lots of other toys and games to be found in our kids’ corner! We also have a baby change table in our female toilets.

Youth and Young Adults

Our Youth (grades 5-9) meet regularly for supper and discussions about life and Jesus.

Giving backEvery year, we give away a portion of our church income to our mission partners who are focused on bringing God’s justice, hope, equality, and peace to communities in Melbourne, across Australia and in some of the poorest parts of the world. We currently support Urban Neighbours of Hope (UNOH) and Global Mission Partners.

We also invite our church community to give over and above their regular church giving to some special offerings during the year, including:

  • Global Mission Partners Church Partnership Offering (May)
  • Christmas Bowl Appeal of Act for Peace, National Council of Churches (December)
  • Churches of Christ Overseas Aid (COCOA) (December).
