Prime Minister Kevin Rudd used this expression a number of times in the "Apology to the Stolen Generation" delivered last wednesday in Parliament. It was an historic day. A time that will be etched forever in the history of our nation. A time for healing and reconciliation for indigenous and white Australians.

During the week I attended an 80th birthday celebration, a 1st birthday party, visited a member in residential care for her 82nd birthday, minded our 5 year old triplet grandchildren and conducted the funeral of a 95 year old mother of a friend. The spectrum of life covers almost a hundred years in five days! It set me thinking about time, age, clock time or chronos time and kairos, God's time. Those situations represent the potential of life yet to be fulfilled, the new beginnings of different stages of life and the ending of life having been well-lived.

This year we will celebrate 120 years of witness as a church . We have a great heritage to be thankful for. Opportunities have been grasped at the right time and acted upon. Gifted people have been called by God to work in each decade. What will be achieved this year builds on what has gone before - even before any of us were involved in the Williamstown Church of Christ.

Paul writes in Philippians 1:4-6 :

I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion" .

We are all called for a particular time as partners, as co-workers - to serve with our heart, soul, mind and strenth, in the cause of the gospel. We don't start the good work - it has already begun. We are invited to participate in it, and it will carry on beyond us. The partnership with one another is to be treasured and nurtured even when we find it difficult. How humbling it is that God invites us to be partners with Him in His good work.

May 2008 in this church be a time, God's time, for growth and for new opportunities to serve together in partnership.
